EVERYBODY'S DOIN' FINE

Copyright 2014 – Robert E. Shandor

I’m puttin’ on my tux
As she slips into her gown
We’re very nearly ready
For a hot night on the town
Called for limo service, big,
Black, sleek and long
Pulled up to Club Eleven
And joined the pumpin’ throng

Ordered up some drinks from
A waitress passin’ by
Vodka martinis kept
Just a little dry
Cruisin’ nooks and crannies
Met a local denizen
Toked some mega-Jane
Before we headed off again

Everybody’s doin’ fine, yes they are
Everybody’s doin’ fine
Everybody’s doin’ fine, yes they are
Everybody’s doin’ fine

Music’s growin’ louder
Bodies bangin’ to the beat
Swayin’ in the half-light
She never looked more sweet
I reached across the distance
Took her hand in mine
We snuck off to a corner
And shared a kiss sublime

We came upon a group
Of our nightlife lovin’ friends
Exchanged some recent news
And discussed emerging trends
Katie had a hunger, so
Jimbo bought a dime
It kept the party goin’
Put to bed old Father Time

Everybody’s doin’ fine, yes they are
Everybody’s doin’ fine
Everybody’s doin’ fine, yes they are
Everybody’s doin’ fine

So we kept on dancin’
To the music -- such a treat --
Sweatin’ like some athletes
Deep in the summer heat
We lost ourselves to rhythm
As the night raced on to dawn
Then before we knew it
The morning had come on

Fin’lly back at home
I open up the front door
Hopin’ what I’m thinkin’
She’s thinkin’, too, for sure
Step across the threshold
Senses all aglow
And what we did next
Is just for us to know

Everybody’s doin’ fine, yes they are
Everybody’s doin’ fine
Everybody’s doin’ fine, yes they are
Everybody’s doin’ fine

Everybody’s doin’ fine, yes they are
Everybody’s doin’ fine
Everybody’s doin’ fine, yes they are
Everybody’s doin’ fine

Everybody’s doin’ fine, yes they are
Everybody’s doin’ fine
Everybody’s doin’ fine, yes they are
Everybody’s doin’ fine
