YOU SHOULD LET ME GO

Copyright 2018 – Robert E. Shandor

Sitting here waiting for you to come

Around the bend

Thinking about the words I could say

To turn you to lover from friend

There in the dark I explore my heart

And the feelings that lie therein

Hoping to find some way that I can

Unlock your heart and walk in

I think I could watch you brush your hair

For a thousand years

And being with you might be what I need

To allay my darkest fears

But there’s something not right that’s coming through

In the way you message me

You won’t say “yes”, but you don’t say “no”

Your position stays a mystery

I’ve been waiting far too long

The time has come, you know

If you can’t tell me you love me, baby

Then you should let me know --

You should let me go

My friends all tell me that I’m a fool

To wait around for you

They might be right but I’m not sure I can

Let this all fall through

‘Cause there are times we mesh so well we’re

Like the tightest of weaves

And it feels so good like it’s meant to be

A gift you share with me

But when we go out I see you look

At other guys

I’m sure you appear the tethered lamb

To their hungry eyes

The color that rises in your cheeks is a

Shade to match our wine

It seems that I’m not quite enough

To keep them out of your mind

I’ve been waiting far too long

The time has come, you know

If you can’t tell me you love me, baby

Then you should let me know --

You should let me go

Sitting here waiting for you to come

Around the bend

Thinking about the words I could say

To turn you to lover from friend

There in the dark I explore my heart

And the feelings that lie therein

Hoping to find some way that I can

Unlock your heart and walk in
